The Running Experiments Department
Our Mission
The Running Experiments Department (REX) provides support to the three major running experiments - CDF, D0 and MINOS – to maximize physics output. Physicists engaged in each of the experiments work in concert with computing professionals to offer support, either directly or by facilitating services provided by other departments, for the development, integration, deployment and operation for the infrastructure needed by each of the experiments, stressing efficient, consistent and common solutions.
Areas of direct support include:
-
providing computing expertise for strategic planning and long term trend analysis
-
day-to-day supervision and monitoring of data handling and production systems
-
development needed to tailor applications, particularly with respect to data handling, to the needs of the experiments
Areas of facilitated support include:
-
coordinate with other departments to procure major items of equipment
-
liaison to application developers on behalf of the experiments
-
coordination with other Computing Division service providers to ensure the smoothest possible delivery of services
